The first two months of the year are among the quietest of all, so if you like smaller crowds at the theme parks January and February may be the ones for you. The area gets a lot of visitors from the north, Canada and the USA, and these are the so-called “snowbirds” who escape wintery conditions in their home states. Because it is “low season”, a lot of family groups choose this time also. Rental homes and hotel rooms are available at just about their lowest rates of the year. Days are cool by comparison to the rest of the year but still warm by out-of-state standards.

Avoid last minute bookings if you want to visit during the peak Easter period (in March or April). Expect high prices for accommodation and car hire and long lines at the theme parks. For the best choice of vacation homes around this time, start your search two or three years before you planned vacation. One reason for the popularity of this season is that the weather is sunny and has warmed up a little but there are low levels of humidity and rain is infrequent.

May and June are a great deal quieter, following the Easter bustle. Theme parks are less crowded but the half term UK school break offsets some of this. Daytime temperatures really start to hot up now and June marks the official start of the rainy season. This is not as bad as it sounds – it is not unusual to have a short shower around mid afternoon but these last on average about 20 minutes before the sunshine returns.

July and August are peak months because most people take their annual leave. Orlando temperatures soar into the high nineties and beyond. It is a busy time for vacation home rentals and theme parks alike.

Temperatures begin to fall back to more modest levels (the eighties!) as Fall approaches during September. Lines are shorter at the parks.

Daytime temperatures are typically below eighty degrees in October and November and the change in night time temperatures is especially obvious, when more than a simple T-shirt is required (but not much more!). Regular visitors find these months some of the best to visit with the combination of more moderate temperatures a a less frantic atmosphere at the attractions.

Finally, December. This brings out the wonderful displays of decorations and parades in the theme parks – and decorations in local communities. In the first half of the month, flights and vacation homes are cheap because demand is low, so you can find a bargain. By the time you get to the weeks including Christmas Day and New Years Day, demand has soared and so have prices and crowds. For many visitors, the Disney New Year firework displays make the crowds and the expense completely worthwhile.

So overall, when is the best time to visit Florida? Without a doubt, the answer is “Anytime!”, because every time of the year holds something special. Plan your Orlando vacation to match your budget and your personal choices and you won’t be disappointed!

* Use the Internet and any publications you can find to identify in advance the parks and rides that look most appealing to you.

* An early start will mean that you can beat the crowds to the most popular rides.

* Travel time to the parks can be lengthy if you’re not staying in Disney world accommodation so allow a lot of time to get there.

* Even though you know that each minute at Disney World is precious, allowing some time in the middle of the day for a rest will help you to last longer overall. If you’re booked into a Disney hotel and can go back there for a brief respite, take advantage of this.

* If you’re visiting during the summer months, bring along some light protective clothes to keep you dry during the afternoon showers. There are storage lockers for hire at the parks for use during the sunny parts of the day, and park stores to buy rain protection supplies if you’ve forgotten them.

* Familiarize yourself with the Fastpass system and which rides it is used on. These are the busiest rides with the longest lines and at each one there is a Fastpass machine. The machine will issue a ticket on demand showing a pre-determined one-hour time period for later in the day. You will find the Fastpass lines to be much shorter when you return during your appointed time later in the day.

* Planning is fine and is certainly recommended but be prepared to make some unanticipated diversions so that you experience everything possible.

* Recognize that children have limits – despite their outward enthusiasm! When they tire, take a rest. If their feet ache, get them a stroller (even if they outgrew one years ago). If a ride frightens them, don’t insist they go on it. This will make your day a lot less stressful.

* If your family or group is likely to want to split up inside the parks, keep in contact using cell phones or even pagers or two-way radios.

* Exploring a theme park requires lot of walking so wear your comfortable walking shoes. Bring two pairs with you from home if you have them so that you can alternate. Avoid the frustration of a vacation ruined by blisters.

* If breakfast at Cinderellas Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom is a “must do” for your child, try calling exactly 90 days prior to the day you want to be there at 7 AM Orlando time for priority seating. Other than during an extremely slow season, you may find later bookings impossible to arrange for this extremely popular character.

Above all else, remember that the objective of a vacation is relaxation, even a Disney World Orlando vacation. Pace yourself and recognize that you will almost certainly not be able to see it all in just one visit. But that will give you a reason to schedule a return!
